Design Consultation

A design consultation is an in-home appointment where we assess your rooms, light, footfall and existing interiors, then bring samples that genuinely suit your scheme. You leave with a shortlist of suitable carpets, woods or LVT, realistic guidance on performance and budget, and a clear next step towards accurate measuring.

Curated flooring samples laid out during a design consultation
  1. Step 1

    Enquiry and scheduling

We arrange a convenient appointment at your home, allowing enough time to see rooms in their natural daylight and evening light where relevant.

  2. Step 2

    Home assessment

We look at footfall, existing joinery, wall colours and furnishings so any recommendation sits comfortably within the wider interior rather than fighting it.

  3. Step 3

    Curated sample selection

Rather than bringing every option we own, we bring a considered shortlist of carpets, woods or LVT that genuinely suit the room's use and light.

  4. Step 4

    Performance and budget guidance

We talk through durability, maintenance and realistic budgets for each option, so decisions are made with full information rather than guesswork.

  5. Step 5

    Next steps

Where you would like to proceed, we arrange precise measuring and planning to move the project forward with confidence.

What actually happens during a home visit

A design consultation is not a sales call. One of our consultants visits your property at an agreed time, spends time understanding how each room is used, and looks carefully at the light it receives through the day. Carpets, wood and LVT all read differently under north-facing light than they do under a south-facing bay window, and colours that look neutral in a showroom can shift noticeably once they are in your home.

We bring physical samples large enough to judge properly, not swatches. You will see and feel the actual materials against your walls, your existing furniture and your flooring transitions, which is the only reliable way to judge whether a finish will work.

How do you narrow down so many options?

Most homeowners find the range of carpets, woods and luxury vinyl overwhelming when they start researching online. Our role is to remove the noise. Based on your household, footfall, pets, underfloor heating and existing interior palette, we bring a focused shortlist rather than an exhaustive catalogue, so the choice in front of you is manageable and relevant.

Will you tell me if something is unsuitable for my home?

Yes. If a product you have seen and liked is not well suited to your circumstances, for example a delicate natural fibre carpet in a high-traffic hallway with dogs, we will say so and explain why, along with what would work better. This is a professional consultation, not a sales presentation, and our recommendations are built on what performs well in real homes over the years, not on what is easiest to sell.

Do I need to have decided on a flooring type already?

No. Many clients arrive with a general sense of what they want, such as warmth underfoot or a particular look, without having settled on carpet, engineered wood or LVT. Part of the consultation is helping you weigh those options honestly against how the room is actually lived in, rather than how it looks in isolation.

What happens after the consultation

If you decide to proceed, the next stage is precise measuring and planning, which turns your chosen material into an accurate specification with quantities, direction and junction details. There is no obligation to continue after the consultation, and you are welcome to take time considering the samples we leave with you.

Frequently asked questions

Is the consultation free?
The consultation itself is a normal part of how we work with clients; any costs relating to your specific project will always be agreed with you in advance and confirmed in writing before work proceeds.
How long does a home visit take?
Most consultations take around an hour, though larger properties or multi-room projects can take longer, since we want to see every relevant space properly rather than rushing through them.
Can you visit in the evening to see how a room looks under artificial light?
Where a room's evening appearance matters, for example a living room used mainly after dark, we can arrange the appointment or a follow-up visit to suit, so you see the flooring under the light it will actually be lived with.
Do you charge for samples left behind?
Samples left with you for consideration are part of the ordinary consultation process; anything left long-term or requested in unusually large quantities would be discussed with you directly.
What should I prepare before the visit?
It helps to have paint colours, fabric swatches or furniture pieces you are keeping to hand, along with a rough idea of budget, so we can tailor the samples we bring as closely as possible to your scheme.
